"We’re Off To See The Wilderness, The Wonderful Wilderness of Awes"
A thru-hike of the Appalachian Trails 2,175 miles is a true grand adventure in a modern world. Forests, mountains, weather, gravity and walking greet every enthusiastic hiker, but most are unprepared for what awaits – a 9 to 5 life in suburbia does little to help us. Despite optimistic outlooks, most walk into the difficulties of the wilderness and fail to fulfill their dream of an end-to-end journey. I was one of those people once.
Thanks to new strategies and the lightweight gear revolution, I learned a new way to hike, a better way to hike. What resulted was four and a half months of fun and smiles. This thru-hiker’s secret that can get you to Maine was the focus of my book. But being an artist and a writer professionally, the tale is told with a more whimsical style that helps you to better understand the adventure before your foot hits the trail – entertainment is a wonderful way to learn. My book is three parts adventure story and one part "how-to" with a section named "Have more smiles in your miles." Since pictures (drawing and photos) say things words many times fail to capture, the entire adventure is told through both words and images. More than half the book was created in the forests and mountains of an AT thru-hike.

"Anyone reading this listen up - His book is simply one of the best AT books ever. Get it - read it - It is great." "Hi Mark, Got your book. GREAT, GREAT!! I knew when I met you at Rockfish Gap, you "had it all together", and so does your book. I am looking forward to following your "thru" again this summer." "Postcard, The copy of your book (to go in the library when the A. T. Museum gets up and running) arrived today. And what a fine book it is. The material at the end (...more smiles in your miles) is a terrific addition and makes the book something more than the usual AT memoir. You did a fine job. Hope you enjoy your upcoming hike!" "I am so glad I got to meet you multiple times on the trail. What a life changing experience! I came home and bought book #1. I loved it. When does #2 come out?" "Hi Postcard, I just read your great book. I really enjoyed it and I got a lot out of the gear data in the back. Thanks for the help and the good information about the trail. I certainly hope I enjoy the trail as much as you did. Thanks Again," |
